On a tour of Otago and Southland with authors: (from left in bus) Barbara Else, William Brandt, Harry Ricketts, Brigid Lowry, Caren Wilton and Paul Thomas. The tour was an annual event sponsored by the New Zealand Book Council where the authors gave readings to schools, libraries and public meetings and met readers at receptions. It was fun but exhausting for them.

We were warned to expect camera faults at 56 Eden St in a briefing before the tour, and I subsequently experienced this unexplained double exposure of the "Angel at My Table", Harry signing the visitors' book and William inspecting Janet's brother's bicycle.

Harry, who wrote Rudyard Kipling A Life recites impromptu from a Kipling poem at this war memorial in Oamaru.
